Equal Pay – We Deserve Better
Today, Tuesday, April 2, 2019, is the national observance of Equal Pay Day; the day when we recognize the wage gap between working women and men and offer remedies to address pay inequity. According to statistics released in 2016 by the United States Census Bureau, women are paid, on average, 80 cents for every dollar their male counterparts are paid -- a gap of 20 cents. While we have made progress over the years, it has been slow. Since 2000, women have seen a $.16 increase which equates to … [Read more...]
Calling All Women: You Can Bulls**t Like a Man!
It happens…..A well-meaning hiring manager who happens to be a man tells me that he “would love to have more great women on his team,” and that he “is a passionate advocate for diversity” but that he just doesn’t have “that many” women applicants in his pipeline from which to consider. To which I immediately respond, “Bulls**t!” Here is the truth. “Don’t have sex because you will get pregnant and [your career will] die.” (Coach Carr, Mean Girls)

Because, obviously, if I had loved Avery more, then I would have stayed home with him. As International Women's Day approaches this month, I've been … [Read more...]

Sorry Not Sorry
I recently read an article about swapping “Sorry” with Thank you” and I was very intrigued. I did a little experiment and counted how many times I said or heard the word sorry over a few days and let’s just say I am a serial apologizer and I am surrounded by the same. And I don’t mean situations that truly require remorse, I am talking about the daily sorrys; the “sorry to bother you…,” “sorry to ask this…”, “sorry for the delay.” You know the drill. I found there were plenty of times I … [Read more...]
